Bayer HealthCare Donates $56,000 to Keep Veterans Winter Shelter Open
Bayer HealthCare Donates $56,000 to Keep Veterans Winter Shelter Open

Veterans Village of San Diego received a very generous donation of $56,000 from Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, which will be used to keep our Veterans Winter Shelter open through the end of March. Last December, we kicked off the "Vets Out of the Cold" fundraising campaign because VVSD needed to raise at least $56,000 to keep the shelter going.

"With Bayer Healthcares' kindness, we have reached our goal and our Winter Shelter will stay open," said VVSD President & CEO Phil Landis. "Without its generosity and Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher's recommendation, we might not have been able to keep the shelter operating this year. I cannot emphasize enough what this means to our homeless veterans."

"Now because of Bayer's outstanding contribution, each night 150 homeless veterans can get off the street and out of the cold."

California Assemblyman Fletcher, a former marine, recommended VVSD to Bayer HealthCare. He said, "VVSD is the best organization I know of for our military veterans." Without Nathan's assistance this generous donation by Bayer would not have come about.

"It is our honor to donate $56,000 to Veterans Village of San Diego in support of its mission to house and provide services to veterans and their families," said Mark Trudeau, President, US Region, Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals.

It was quite a moment when 1,400 Bayer sales reps gave VVSD and all veterans a long standing ovation. A day we will long remember! Bayer certainly understands what it means to live the philosophy to "Leave No One Behind."
