Sponsorship is one way money raised to provide all the services to our veterans during Stand Down. Stand Down is a 3-day encampment each summer in San Diego designed to guide homeless veterans directly into active engagement in future success. Homeless Veterans and their families are introduced to services that rapidly remove barriers caused by medical, legal, mental health, and substance use concerns. Stand Down is an annual event since 1989 that has 100+ agencies and over 3,000 volunteers who offer personalized care to each veteran.

Stand Down 2023

Veterans Village of San Diego would like to thank everyone that participated in the 2023 Stand Down event. This event would not possible without your support, donations, partnerships, and commitment to help to end veteran homelessness. Veterans Village of San Diego is deeply grateful for the 800 volunteers and 50 community partners that worked extremely hard to make Stand Down possible. This year’s annual Veterans Village of San Diego 2023 Stand Down impact expanded the reach of 564 veterans and family members, 40 children, 30 pets, 1,500 meals were served each day and many critical services were provided to veterans in need. Thank you to each and every person that made Stand Down possible.

Recognized as the “most valuable outreach tool for homeless veterans” by the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, Stand Down offers respite from the daily combat of living on the streets. Veterans are met with a handshake, coffee and breakfast. Animals and possessions are stored under 24/7 protection while men, women and families are assigned to a bunker. Volunteers then escort participants to clothing tents, showers, barbers, makeovers, medical, dental and optical services.
