THE HOME DEPOT FOUNDATION’S OPERATION SURPRISE SELECTS VETERAN’S VILLAGE OF SAN DIEGO FOR A WAREHOUSE MAKEOVER

Veteran’s Village of San Diego is the recipient of a Warehouse Makeover from The Home Depot Foundation Operation Surprise. The makeover of the warehouse will increase the efficiency of the donation processing and a more functional layout for Veterans to find and receive needed items.

San Diego, CA, December 5, 2022 — The Home Depot Foundation’s annual Operation Surprise campaign, which aims to provide life-changing moments of surprise and support for veterans and communities in need selected Veterans Village of San Diego (VVSD) to receive a major makeover for their warehouse.  Since 2011, The Home Depot Foundation has invested more than $400 million in veteran causes and improved more than 50,000 veteran homes and facilities.

The Operation Surprise warehouse makeover for Veterans Village of San Diego took place on November 16-17, 2022 with 365 Events San Diego, a local events company connecting corporations and communities coordinating the two-day makeover with Team Depot volunteers from surrounding Home Depot Stores.

The Operation Surprise for VVSD’s warehouse makeover included new racks, shelving, dressing room and seating area transforming the warehouse to look more like a department store with organized areas throughout the warehouse for clothing, shoes, personal hygiene supplies, housewares, small and large appliances, furniture, and electronics. The new makeover provides VVSD with improved functionality to receive and store donated items and a more efficient warehouse layout for military veterans and their families to find items needed while being in what feels like a department store layout.

Veteran’s Village of San Diego (VVSD) has served Veterans since 1981 and provides services to more than 3,000 Military Veterans each year throughout the county of San Diego, CA.  VVSD services include: Housing, Mental Health Services, Employment & Training, Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation, Temporary Financial Assistance, Support for Senior Veterans and Support for Veterans Families – Women and Children.

“Veterans Village of San Diego is honored that The Home Depot Foundation selected us to be the recipient of the warehouse makeover.  The makeover provides our Veterans with a much-needed functional space to receive donations and a more efficient set-up for our veterans find the items they need. The warehouse serves a major role for our residents from receiving clothing for an interview, basic personal hygiene supplies, shoes, furniture for their new homes and much more.  The new makeover provides an impactful and dignified layout for our veterans and their families to feel like they are in an organized department store instead of a warehouse.  The Home Depot Foundation Operation Surprise shows what community is all about.  VVSD is very thankful for the Operation Surprise Makeover.” Akilah Templeton, CEO & President of Veterans Village of San Diego.
