60 Minutes Stand Down

60 Minutes Stand Down segment from October 17, 2010

Stand Down started in 1988 and was the first ever Stand Down for homeless vets. There are now over 200 nationwide. Four 60 Minutes crews spent five days taping the 2010 Stand Down, which aired on October 17, 2010, and again in July 2011.

As a result of the 60 Minute story, and the interview with a young marine veteran named Charles, VVSD now has designated 18 beds specifically for homeless veterans who DO NOT have a substance abuse issue. The program, called Veterans In Step, is very successful and is almost always full.

VVSD is a nationally-recognized leader in providing prevention, intervention, rehabilitation and employment services to military veterans, including men and women who have recently returned from Iraq and Afghanistan.
